The two-year project, “Planning an Affordable, Resilient, and Sustainable Grid in North Carolina,” will include opportunities for interested stakeholders to review the metrics developed by the research team. Active participants will provide input into an advanced grid scenario focused on enabling a more decentralized resilient grid, including micro and mini grids that can support critical services, such as hospitals, in the case of power outages – as recommended in the NC Clean Energy Plan. The new large-scale, ground-mount solar array will offer electric customers a shared renewable energy option and an alternate to rooftop solar. Customers can enroll in the Community Solar Program, pay a monthly subscription fee, and in exchange, receive a bill credit for the value of the solar less the cost to operate. Learn More Customer Rate Comparison Tool The Customer Rate Comparison Tool is offered as a service to electric utilities and other energy providers. Customers can interact with the tool showing how their decisions may impact energy bills. The tool can be customized to inform the customer about new electric rates, energy efficiency options, energy use of home appliances and other factors that affect energy bills. Learn More Our Work We organize our work around these six areas: Renewable Energy Renewable energy is derived from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, tides, biomass and geothermal heat that replenish themselves continuously. The Center provides information and support to energy users, energy providers and other energy stakeholders. -- Clean Power & Industrial Efficiency We work to reduce energy intensity by incorporating clean power technologies such as combined heat and power (CHP). We offer three levels of energy efficiency assessments including technical assistance, feasibility studies, and policy considerations for facilities throughout the Southeastern United States. We support sustainability objectives for energy users in industrial, commercial and institutional areas. -- Clean Transportation We strive to increase the use of alternative fuels and advanced transportation technologies. Working with government, non-profits and businesses, the Center is helping diversify fuel supplies and support cleaner, more vibrant local and state economies. Our goal – cleaner air and greater energy security. -- Training The Center offers several opportunities for professional development and the highest level of continuing education in renewable energy technologies. Some trainings are recurring while others are created and offered sporadically throughout the year. -- Policy Center energy policy staff conduct research and analysis to provide a better understanding of how renewable energy and energy efficiency are best promoted through public policy. We assist businesses by providing information regarding state regulations and tax policies as well as other resources. -- Center Projects Our staff work on many different projects that span different clean energy technologies and program areas at the Center.
